Salvatore Anthony Lodico was born in Canigatti, Sicily.
His family immigrated to New York in 1924, where my dad grew up on the Lower East Side. He and my Grandfather painted dolls and sold fruit to earn a living during the war and raise his 4 kids.
Here, they called him Sal or Tony. We called him Dad.
He studied at the Art Institute and attended Pratt and Cooper Union.
He worked as a “Mad Man” in advertising all his life, winning many awards, but painting was his first love. He always painted, but when he retired at 67, he devoted himself to it full time, until he died at 93 in 2009.
He painted what he loved and believed in, and created some wonderful artwork spanning many styles from Pop Art, realism and became known as a “Mass Surrealist”. This website is here to honor him and the work he created.
